Toxic Gases in Mining

نویسندگان

چکیده

Rapid detection of causes mining accidents leading to emergencies is search the efforts. Controlling fires and gas leaks provides an immediate approach rescue work for fatalities or injuries detecting who needs resuscitation outside mine. Evacuation recovery operations should be guided by continuous monitoring mine environment due fire explosion hazards. The main toxic gases in mines are carbon monoxide (CO) dioxide (CO2); flammable methane (CH4), CO hydrogen (H2); suffocating CO2, nitrogen (N20) CH4; CO, oxides (NOx) sulfide (H 2 S).

Three toxic gases meet in the mitochondria

The rationale of the study was two-fold: (i) develop a functional synthetic model of the Cytochrome c oxidase (CcO) active site, (ii) use it as a convenient tool to understand or predict the outcome of the reaction of CcO with ligands (physiologically relevant gases and other ligands). At physiological pH and potential, the model catalyzes the 4-electron reduction of oxygen. This model was immo...

UV spectrophotometry for monitoring toxic gases

The need for gas compound measurement concerns overall three domains: environmental monitoring, emission measurement and risk assessment. These fields are different because of concentration range (from 10–3 to thousands mg.m–3). A fast technique has been developed based on UV spectrophotometry. Simple robust optics and absence of interference from water vapour and carbon dioxide are two of the ...

Mining and Toxic Metals

How Mining Releases Toxic Metals Large amounts of waste rock and tailings contaminated with toxic metals can be produced by mine sites. In the case of the Donlin Creek mine, there are only 0.072 ounces of gold for every ton of ore, a figure that does not take into account the waste rock. Toxic substances contained within the rock and tailings are more easily released once these substances are p...

Wireless Remote Monitoring of Toxic Gases in Shipbuilding

Large-scale wireless sensor networks have not achieved market impact, so far. Nevertheless, this technology may be applied successfully to small-scale niche markets. Shipyards are hazardous working environments with many potential risks to worker safety. Toxic gases generated in soldering processes in enclosed spaces (e.g., cargo holds) are one such risk. The dynamic environment of a ship under...

An optoelectronic nose for the detection of toxic gases

We have developed a simple colorimetric sensor array that detects a wide range of volatile analytes and then applied it to the detection of toxic gases. The sensor consists of a disposable array of cross-responsive nanoporous pigments with colours that are changed by diverse chemical interactions with analytes. Although no single chemically responsive pigment is specific for any one analyte, th...
